What Will You Learn?

The Social Studies Secondary Education program at AGC incorporates core social studies courses with diverse education requirements.

Core social studies courses explore the global environment, economics, government, history and more. In consultation with an academic adviser, you can select a concentration in one of the following disciplines: anthropology, economics, geography, government, history, psychology and sociology.

All MU education programs involve a Foundations Block which explores modern teaching and the psychology of teaching, Professional Blocks which focus on instructional technology and positive learning environments, and a semester of student teaching.

Dive into the subject of social studies while learning how to best share your passion with 7th to 12th grade students through AGC's Social Studies Secondary Education program. This collaborative program is designed for students planning to teach economics, geography, government or history. You will expand your knowledge of social studies through the history department while also gaining practical skills through the educational foundations department.

MU's Secondary Education program maintains partnerships with liberal arts departments to provide education courses, field experiences and co-advisors for future teachers interested in teaching 7th to 12th grade students. By successfully completing this program, you will earn a Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.) degree with a certification in Secondary Social Studies Education and be prepared for Pennsylvania licensure exams.
